Book Club: The Little Prince

  • City Labor Club 16 Petrie Plaza Canberra, ACT, 2601 Australia (map)

Please note the change of venue. Tilley's outside is too cold now(and inside too noisy), though we'll likely revisit it in the spring. Going with suggestions made at the last book club Meetup (thanks!) we're going to do a kind of double-barrelled book club plan, with a shorter book first and a longer book just three weeks later (but two months from now). The book for this Meetup will be The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, which is under 70 pages, I'd encourage anyone who's interested in the next book (Chasing the Scream by Johann Hari) to check out the Meetup listing and get hold of that book soon as well to give yourself time to read it. The details are in the notice for that book club Meetup date.

Voted the best book of the 20th century in France, The Little Prince is often cited as people's favourite book from their childhood. I'm excited, however, as I've never read it, so I finally get to see what all the fuss is about. The English translation of The Little Prince is available for 99 cents on Kindle: and of course from pretty much any bookstore or library. As it's more than 50 years old, it seems to be available in the public domain, so if you don't mind a pdf version, there's one available here for free:
